KAICON PV Paving Robots Surpass 800 Modules per Unit per Day in Extreme Desert Conditions

In the vast Usutai Desert of Alxa, Inner Mongolia, an intelligent construction revolution is quietly underway. KAICON has achieved a major milestone as its photovoltaic (PV) paving robots set a new productivity benchmark, with each unit installing more than 800 PV modules per day, even under the region’s harsh desert-Gobi environment.

Deployed at the 2.0 GWp Alxa Usutai PV power plant, four KAICON smart paving robots simultaneously reached this record-breaking performance, demonstrating outstanding construction efficiency, stability, and adaptability in extreme conditions.

This achievement represents a significant leap forward in automated PV installation, delivering three core advantages:

  • Ultra-High Efficiency
Operating within an 11-hour work cycle, each robot achieves an installation efficiency over five times higher than traditional manual methods, significantly accelerating project timelines.

  • Superior Installation Quality
Fully automated laying and positioning effectively eliminate human error, ensuring high-precision, consistent, and standardized module installation across large-scale solar sites.

  • Reduced Construction Costs
By minimizing labor dependency and maintaining ultra-low module breakage rates, the system substantially lowers overall EPC and O&M costs, delivering greater project economics.

This breakthrough is the result of KAICON's continuous technological innovation and the unwavering dedication of its engineering and service teams. Confronted with extreme desert climates, intense winds, frequent sandstorms, and wide temperature fluctuations, the on-site team provided 24/7 technical support and operational optimization, ensuring stable and high-performance robot operation.

The Alxa Usutai project is located in a typical desert-Gobi terrain, characterized by strong winds, mobile sand surfaces, and severe temperature extremes—up to 40°C in summer and down to -20°C in winter, with daily temperature variations reaching 25°C. Such conditions pose major challenges for conventional construction methods.

KAICON's PV paving robots are purpose-built to thrive in these environments. Their high-mobility off-road chassis enables stable traversal across loose sand and uneven terrain, while the four-axis real-time leveling platform ensures precise and stable module placement. In addition, the wind- and sand-resistant protection system, combined with high-temperature and low-temperature tolerant components, guarantees reliable, continuous operation even under extreme desert conditions.

Looking ahead, KAICON will continue to deepen its expertise in intelligent PV construction equipment, accelerate product iteration, and expand its portfolio of automated paving and cleaning robot solutions, delivering smarter, more efficient, and more reliable technologies for the global photovoltaic industry.
